About the Meeniyan Marty Gras

Meeniyan Marty Gras, founded by Marty Thomas, is the town’s biggest and most colourful annual fundraising event. Held at the Meeniyan Town Hall on Saturday 28 October 2023, this year's event is the fourth of its kind, and is expected to attract 250+ party goers. It began in 2018 to mark the 50th birthdays of founder Marty and his close friend Kym.

Guests are encouraged to dress in their most outrageous and colourful outfits, embracing the theme behind Marty Gras’ namesake event.

This year’s Marty Gras includes a huge entertainment line-up, with THREE drag queens headlining including RuPaul’s Drag Race Downunder contestant Aubrey Haive, her partner in crime Gloss, and Xena Ghost, PLUS local DJ Golden Fleece, the Gippsland Queer Choir, and It’s no drama inclusive theatre ensemble.

Guests will dance the night away, and raise much needed funds for foundations Opportunities of Development thru Art (ODA) in Cambodia, and Gippsland Pride Initiative Inc.

PLUS - in addition to Marty Gras, Moo’s at Meeniyan will host a Drag Trivia Night on Friday 27th October (the night before the main event), where guests can get up close and personal with fabulous Marty Gras headliner Aubrey Haive. Over multiple rounds of trivia, and a casual dinner menu, she’ll keep everyone entertained with her witty chat, and interesting questions. Book as a group, or just for two - either way she'll organise everyone into teams on the night.

It's a special night for Marty too, as drag trivia will kick off the first ever Marty Gras 'weekend', keeping the celebrations going over two days.
